Other News

Team Pollaro competed in the 2nd Annual Bloomington Open, bringing home 8 medals.  

John Glover (adult purple belt) submitted both of his opponents to win gold. 

Corbin Catt (kids white belt/yellow belt division) competed in his first BJJ tournament and did outstandingly.  He won all of his matches and had to compete against teammate Amelia Rose for the gold medal.  Corbin won a hard fought match, taking home the gold.

Amelia Rose (kids white/yellow belt division) was the only girl in her division and won all of her matches to go up against teammate Corbin Catt for the gold.  Amelia did a great job and came home with the silver.

Aerie Rose (adult white belt) competed in her first BJJ tournament.  Aerie was down 6 to 0 in her first match, but she fought back hard and won the match 7 to 6.  Aerie brought home a silver medal.

Shawn Powell and Travis Simms (both adult blue belts) brought home silver medals; both of them winning matches by submission.   

Josiah Brewer (adult white belt) brought home a bronze medal.  Josiah submitted two opponents in his division.

Landyn Powell (kids white belt) competed in his first BJJ tournament and came home with a bronze medal after having some tough matches.

Andy Napier (adult blue belt), his son Cameron, Isaac Roy, and Seth Santiago (adult white belt) did not medal but all competed well.  Cameron and Seth (both teenagers) were placed in the adult division.  It was the first BJJ tournament for all four of them and they looked good. 

Nick was very proud of the whole team.  Congratulations!

Kenny Rose and Nick competed at the Illinois Five Grappling Tournament.

Kenny brought home a silver medal in his weight division (white belt gi).

Nick won a chamionship belt in his weight division (black belt gi) and a bronze medal in the no-gi division.

Nick, Dan Gulley and Nate Bailey competed in the NAGA BJJ Tournament held in Cincinnati, OH.  Dan won gold in the gi division and silver in the no-gi division.  Nate won a championship belt in the no-gi expert division and gold in the gi division.  Nick brought home a championship belt the no-gi expert division.

Other News 

On April 26, Craig and Daniel competed at the EGO. Craig submitted his first opponent by triangle and fought a very hard match in the finals. He lost by a score of 6 to 5 to bring home the silver. It was Craig's first tournament at blue belt.

Daniel competed in his first tournament and stuck to his game plan. Even though he came up short (as we all have), he did very well and I was very proud of him. He did a great job of listening and will no doubt do even better in his next tournament.

The whole school is very proud of both of you. Great job guys!

Other News

Nick competed at the Chicago Open.  It was Nick's first tournament as a black belt and he was the oldest black black competing.  In addition, he dropped down an age division.  Nick brought home a silver in his weight division and a gold in the open division.  Patrick Robinson, Nick’s coach, did an outstanding job of coaching.
