Wear a loose fitting pair of pants or shorts and a comfortable shirt. Don't wear any jewelry. Make sure to remove any piercings and jewelery before doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes are split into two parts. During the first part of class, students will learn and drill techniques. Afterward, we roll (spar). Rolling is not required, and students may stay for none, some, or all of the rolling session.
During the instructional portion of class, the instructor will demonstrate a technique. After each demonstration, students will pair up and practice the technique. The techniques that are demonstrated on any given day normally begin from a similar position and offer the student different options from that position.
After the instructor has finished demonstrating techniques for the day, students are given a chance to roll. The purpose of rolling is to practice techniques against a live opponent. This is a great workout and a good way to get in shape.
